Step by Step Repair For OTR Tire
Tire damage is common things for any type of vehicle, but it can be reduced by following manufacturer recommendation. Tire cut due to rocks, steel or other hard materials can not be avoided 100%. In the other hand tire damage due to cut problem became one of major tire premature failure in any transportation and mining business. To minimize tire cost due to cut required tire repair.
Good tire repair is effective to maintain the tire cost, commonly tire repair cost only around 10% of price from new tire or lesser depend on tools and material quality used.
Basically tire repair procedure for all type of tire or belt conveyor almost similar. below are step by step tire repair for OTR Tire:
Step 1 Cleaning.
Check whole tire and find the injury than marked it, water can be used to clean the tire. Use special tire marker like tire chalk. Just make sure the tire worth to be repaired.
Purpose: To make sure earlier repairable or not repairable (out of repair specification or risk).
Step 2 Skive
This step is to find out a damage tire worth to be repaired or not, by using special tool (rotary tools) to open the damage/cut and make sure the wide/length of the injury.
Purpose: to open the injury and make sure damage condition look like.
Step 3 Buffing
Make smooth the injury surface and to make sure expansion of the damage is stopped, use the rotary grinding tool outside and inside (inner liner).
Purpose: to make cushion rubber stick properly and find out no expansion of the injury.
Step 4 Prepare Patch
Prepare the patch for type of damage, location, tire size, tire construction type and so on.
Purpose: to find the correct patch and optimum patch strength.
Step 5 Measure Thickness
Purpose: Measure the thickness of the damage to determine curing period.
Step 6 Cementing
Apply first cement outside and inside of the damage before put the cushion rum/rubber and patch. apply second cement after around 15 minutes depend ambien temperature and humidity.
Purpose: To make easily cushion gum/rubber and patch stick properly, also to avoid possibility air trap.
Step 7 Apply Patch
Apply cement to inner part of the patch than wait until dry, apply cushion rubber sheet gum to the inner part. Apply the patch to inner liner and use sticher / roller to make sure the patch stick properly. Avoid air trap during installing the patch.
Purpose: Patch will hold the air pressure and tire flexing, so good patch installing will work to hold the air pressure but follow the tire flexing.
Step 8 Apply Gum/Rubber
Apply gum or rubber a sheet inside injury firmly than outside area. Use extruder rubber gun to apply the cushion rubber to injury area until full. Use a roller in every sheet or every line to make sure no air trap during filling. A tiny air trap will cause repair fail than additional of tire cost.
Purpose: Filling rubber cushion to injury area without air trap.
Step 9 Curing
Prepare standard equipment such as heat pad, harness strap, flat & cylinder air bags, and control panel.
Install heat pad for both inner and outer side, it may required repair talk, install inner flat bag and cylinder bag. inflate 5 psi to allow right position of heat pad and the air bag. Install outer airbag and harness strap. Set cylinder bag to 32 psi and air flat bag to 28 psi, turn on timer switch to certain curing time.
Step 10 Finishing
After finish curing, grind the excess rubber to form repair contour like original tire surface. It also possible to use silicon liquid to polish the tire surface look better.
